Dharmaraja Vs Kingswood Big Match - 2022 (115th Battle of the Maroons)

The Battle of the Maroons, the Big Match in Kandy between Dharmaraja College and Kingswood College, for the 115th year will be on September 23 and 24, 2022 at the Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium for the TB Tennekoon Shield. Of the 114 Encounters played so far Dharmaraja has won 36 Encounters while Kingswood has won 19 matches and 54 Encounters have ended in draws. In 2015 Dharmaraja won the match under the Captaincy of Tharusha Weragoda.

In the long history of this much looked forward Cricket Encounters, Dharmaraja college holds a Record for the only Double Century scored by Senaka Dissanayake with a knock of 200 Runs in the big match in the year 1983 and Senaka created another record to become the First Batsman to score a double Century at Asgiriya Grounds. For Kingswood the highest score was Clifford Ratnavibhushana who scored 167 in 1957. Speaking about this Cricket encounter , there were many Veterans in the game who figured in the ‘Big Match’ in the past years with Centuries for Dharmaraja and among them were PL Arthur alwis 121 in 1942, TB Talwatte 104 in 1942, AL de Alwis 109 not out in 1945, PB Munasinghe 108 in 1951, Chandra de silva 158 in 1952, RJK Gunasekera 105 in 1954, Siri Ranasinghe 112 in 1966, N.Yatigammana 112 not out in 1970, D.Vithanage 100 in 1970, Ajith Naranpanawa 127 & 120 in 1975 and 1976 respectively, Dananjaya Nawaratne 109 in 1979, Senaka Dissanayake 200 in 1983, Prasanna Walalawala 103 not out in 1983, Prasanna Dissanayake 103 not out in 1985, Chanakya Kulatunge 112 in 1987, Rukshan Suriarachchi 113 in 2006 and he became the Centurion at the 100th Encounter.

 

Kingswood had a great Cricket player in Freddie White of Hockey fame who played Cricket in 1949 and scored the first Century for Kingswood followed by Mahinda de Silva who made 132 in 1951, Asoka Perera scored 148 in 1952, Maurice Fernando 101 in 1957, Clifford Ratnawibhushana 167 in 1959, Tissa Jayathillake 100 in 1966, Priyantha Wickremasuriya 127 and116 in 1976 and 1977 respectively, B.H. Sheriffdeen 100 in 1981, Mangala Dharmaprema 120 in 1984. For Kingswood in Bowling Senaka Abeygunaratne who had a match haul of 11 for 107 in 1966, getting 8 for 39 in the 1st Innings and 3 for 68 in the 2nd Innings. For Dharmaraja Shemendra Ekanayake had a match bag of 12 for 66 in 1977 getting Five for Ten in the 1st Inning and Seven for 56 in the 2nd Innings.

19th Annual Get-together 2021

 

The 19th annual get-together of the Rajans OBU Group of 94 was held on 03rd of April 2021 at Hotel Devon, Ampitiya under the health guide lines. The chief guest of the event was Hon Principal Mr Dampiya Wanasinghe

It was the last get-together of our group with principal Mr Dampiya Wanasinghe as he is expecting retirement in few months time.

Our batch mate and the first president of Rajans OBU Group of 94 Mr Imal Atalugama's commitment to the upliftment of our group as well as the role of pioneering to set up the group was appreciated on this day

4th Mega Project (2017) of Rajans Group of 94

4^th Mega Project (2017) of Rajans Group of 94 - Infrastructures for Technology Subject Stream

The outline of the fourth Mega Project of our group (group of 94) has been emerged. The Technology Stream was newly introduced by the Ministry of Education to the local Advanced Level examination as to face the ever evolving future demands. Unfortunately our alma mater lacks the facilities to go on with this subject stream. As requested by the principal, Group of 94 has decided to setup the infrastructure so that the basic requirement can be fulfilled.

Under this project we have decided to renovate the abandoned ex Year 11 building. There are four separate classrooms in this abandoned building. It has been decided to convert it to two (large) classroom building and hand it over to the college management.

A field study has been done in order to estimate the expanses and a BOQ has been prepared for the job.

Previously we had never renovated any abandoned building so it will be a challenge for us to complete this project. It will cost a lot when comparing with previous projects and have to take lot of attention to make it with standards. It’s time for all our members (of Rajans OBU Group of 94) to support this project and offer it to the new generation ..

Completion of Project 2016

Renovation of Band Room - Project 2016

Hello Brothers

It’s a year since we successfully completed our OBU Group’s last project. And now it’s the time for the next …

This year our executive committee studied carefully about many proposals and came up with a whole new idea! That is to renovate the Western Band Room, Donate uniform for the Eastern Band and to build an open mini arena for the Eastern band to practice.

Present Situation
The present situation of the Eastern Band Room is very sad. The wall plaster is damaged, the cupboards are corroded etc ..

Also the uniforms.. Present uniform sets are aged and damaged beyond repair.

The Estimate
After the on-sight inspection carried out together with MIA Mr Dammika under the guidance of our principal a rough estimate was prepared.

Cost of construction of mini arena  – Rs 450 000.00
Cost of uniforms for the Band         - Rs 400 000.00
Cost of renovation of Band room    – Rs 50000.00
Total Cost                                   – Rs 900000.00


It’s time for us to stand tall and do something for the Alma Mater !

Progress of Day 01

 The construction of mini arena has been started. Excavation works in progress. Due to the GCE A/L exams it is hard to find a time-slot for the construction.

Dharmaraja Vs Kingswood Big match 2016 (110th Battle of the Maroons)

The 110th Battle of the Maroons between Dharmaraja College and Kingswood College, Kandy will be played for the TB Tennakoon Shield on March 18 and 19 at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.

Out of the 109 big matches played so far the Rajans are well ahead in the tally winning 35 matches while Kingswood has registered just 19 big match victories. The Rajans won last year's big match under Tharusha Weragoda and Kingswood have not won since 1958 when CM Fernando captained the team.The highest individual score in the series was recorded by Senaka Dissanayake of Dharmaraja College who made 200 in the 1983 big match played at Asgiriya, Kandy.

Clifford Ratnavibushana scored the highest for Kingswood when he made 167 in the 1959 big match played at Lakeview, Kandy. This writer had the privilege of leading the Dharmaraja team to victory in the 1965 big match by an innings and 43 runs

14th Annual Get-together 2016

The 14th Annual Get Together of Dharmaraja OBU Group of 94 was held at Rivers Edge of Oak-Ray Regency on 21st of February 2016. The chief guests were Principal of Dharmaraja College Mr S.M. Kirthiratne, Retired Deputy Principal Lt. Col. S.K.B. Weerakoon.
