1. Dharmaraja College Vs Trinity College (2013.03.17 @ Pallekele)

This match was the season opener for the both teams and TCK were the first to touch the line not for the first but for the second time too .. Then it was Trinity's game until that moment when we came back with three back to back tires. At the dying moment of the game TCK scored their last try and they couldn't complete the conversion though it seemed to be not so difficult. The final score was 34 all and it was a draw. That's for the very first time we hold them for a draw
Unfortunately the decisions  of the veteran referee were not so fair as he did not spotted almost non of the TCK fouls.

2. Dharmaraja College Vs Isipathana College (2013.03.26 @ Bogambara)
Rajans recorded their first win of 2013 Rugby season by beating the 7s champions Isipatha by 35 points to 8. We have rewrote the history.

As we analyse the scores it gives an impression that we have won the match easily and we have shown great performance. But for those who witness the match could have seen our performance is not in top notch thus need to pay attention on lot of weak points (fortunately not very harmful in this match). Two of our players were shown "yellow cards". This trend should be addressed immediately or can cause heavy loss in matches with strong opponents. Anyway a day to remember ..

3. Dharmaraja College Vs Science College (2013.04.05 @ Bogambara)

It was indeed a great win for Rajans (21 to 20) in this season but the performance of our rugby team was not upto the expected level. Ball handling was poor and lost a lot of line outs. Finally we had a narrow escape. This is the best time to review our performance and make necessary adjustments before the upcoming match.

4. Dharmaraja College Vs Kingswood College (2013.04.26 @ Bogambara)

We recorded a good win in a clear margin against the Kingswoodians (33 to 24). The referee’s decisions were absolutely not upto the standards, The dying stage of the match was played almost in darkness and the match was played for about 85 minutes. The Kingswoodians could not bear the defeat so they were not present at the awards ceremony. It was not what we all expect from sportsmen as well as students. Last year they refuse to play with Rajans as there was a chance of a defeat. But this season they had no other option but to play against Rajans. Finally they were clearly defeated. We believe that the officials as well as the OBU of KCK should consider this matter seriously and teach them to bear defeat as well as the victory

5. Dharmaraja College Vs St Peters College (2013.05.03 @ Bogambara)

6. Dharmaraja College Vs Wesley College (2013.05.10 @ CR&FC Grounds)
Rajans beat Wesley by 36 to 24 to remain unbeaten. There was a huge improvement in our skills specially the forwards played a wonderful game and they have shown a dramatical improvement. The Wesleyites played a dangerous game made a lot of high tackles.

8. Dharmaraja College Vs St Joseph's College (2013.06.01 @ CR & FC Grounds)

It was a nail biting time for everyone as both teams fought equally. At half time it was 15 all and final score was 22 to 20. Dharmaraja college "Rajans" registered another win to be the table leaders.

The SLSRFA has decided to postpone the remaining league encounters which were scheduled for the 08th of June(Saturday) until further notice.
This decision was taken after a series of discussions after the Referees Society withdrew from officiating league games until adequate measures were taken to ensure security of the officials.
The SLSRFR requested the Schools Association to disallow spectators at selected games earlier this week, which was refuted by the Schools concerned. (Source : ThePapare.com)

Some of the action captured through lens by The Papare photographer.

Rajans on Day 1

Rajans on Day 1

On 17th of February we play against Royal college in the Quarter Final match. And won it by 20 points to 5. Also in this match we had to play with 6 players as one was penalised. It was a tough game to play and with 6 players it was even tougher. Now it's the semi finals. It will be played around 15:30 hrs local time.

Semi Final : It was a close battle against the St Peters and could not over come their strength. Rajans lost it by 12 to 14. At half time it was 5 all.

Finally we came a long way and almost reached the title. This year we are not lucky enough to  be the winners as we did in 2012, but our boys played so well.

1. Dharmaraja College Vs Carey College

Though the scheduled date was 20th of April the match was kicked off on 23rd of April 2012 at Bogambara Stadium. This was the season opener for the Rajans and the crushed the opponents by 82 points to nil. As Rajans Rugby fans we can enjoy the mammoth score but the ball handling, place kicking and the overall performance of Rajans team was not upto the standards. We all hope that we can watch some good rugby in the upcoming matches.

2. Dharmaraja College Vs Nalanda College
It was played in Ratmalana Air Force grounds on 29th of April 2012. Rajans easily defeated Nalandians by 41 to 5. At lemons Rajans lead by 15 to nil.Just by considering the scores it seems that our team performed perfectly but what had been seen was not a good sign. Ball handling was not upto the standards and we could have scored a lot more in this match. So it is very important to pay the attention on those weak points before the next match and we have to keep in mind that we should get qualified for the Division A at the end of the tournament. So we have to perform like a Division A team.

3. Dharmaraja College Vs Lumbini College

Last weekend there were no rugby matches as it was the Wesak day. We all had to wait for a fortnight and finally it was worth waiting. It was a massacre. Rajans won the match by 104 points to nil against Lumbini and the performance of our team was much better than the previous two matches. Though we made few mistakes like knock-on's, we performed well
The place kicking was awesome as we converted almost every try which was seen after a considerable period. The other important thing was the effort to polish the young guns. There were 5 replacements and that was something very important. It really revealed the thirst to expose the young guns into the battle. We must be thankful to the players, coach, ORRFA as well as every well-wisher for this significant improvement.

4. Dharmaraja College Vs St Sylvester's College

It was another win as we all expected but again the performance of our team during the first half was not upto the standards. As the end of first half the score was 24 to 19. The second half was far more better than the first half and the final score was 73 to 26. Again we have to pay much more attention on our performance because what was seen in the first half was not very pleasant.

5. Dharmaraja College Vs C.W.W. Kannangara Vidyalaya

In this match we recorded the highest points so far and again it is a three figure number. But we can not completely satisfy about our performance though we scored beyond a century. Still the ball handling is very poor. We saw a lot of knock-on’s and that is a basic error we must avoid in order to face the tough teams like STC or Wesley in the upcoming matches.

7. Dharmaraja College Vs St Thomas College

It was the toughest match in Division 1-B as the table leaders take on each other. St Thomas was not a big fish for us as we scored freely through out the match. The second half was awesome because most of the points were scored during the dying stage.

8. Dharmaraja College Vs Thurston College
This match was so much different from the rest of the matches we played in this season. Though the opponents lost the game, they seem to study us well. They played a waiting game and used their forwards very well. Always tried to keep the ball in rucks and mauls and let the time fly. This game revealed that we have to pay more attention on attacking and breaking a ruck or a maul. We can consider this match as an eye opener for us which showed our weakness so we can work on it and play much more better rugby in President's Cup.

9. Dharmaraja College Vs Wesley College

This was actually the “clash of the titans” . Both teams remained unbeaten till this match and looking for the domination in Group B. Soon as the whistle was blown Rajans scored a try and converted it and Wesley came through strongly and did the same making it 7 all. But finally it was 37 to 7 and Rajans finished the season in grand style dominating the Group B.

Though we won the match we can not 100% satisfy about the performance as there were lots of handling errors through out the match. We must pay our attention so strongly to overcome such disadvantages and polish up our skills.

Anyway we will be elevated to the Group A in next season as we all expected and a lot of hard work is on our way towards 2013. Thanks everyone for supporting Rajans Ruby and let’s make 2013 a winning season.

10. Dharmaraja College Vs Kingswood College

This was supposed to be a friendly match for the William Weerasinghe Trophy. Unfortunately Kingswoodians refused to play it. This is not very good sportsmanship.

From the Touchlines - Rajans Rugby 2011 (Update

Rajans Group of 94 will publish updates of the 2011 rugby season on this blog for the second consecutive year. As we did last year only the updates related to Dharmaraja College will appear here. As you know large number of matches to be played in this season it is impossible to give all the details of them and also this blog is dedicated to the activities of OBU Group of 94. Our expectation is to provide instant updates of the matches and keep all the Rajans updated. Indika Basnayake of Rajans OBU Group of 94 is providing all the updates on time. Thanks!

1. Rajans Vs Isipathana
Isipathana won by 37 to 15
This was the curtain raiser of the 2011 season for Rajans as well as Pathana. It was played at Havelock place on 31st March 2011. Rajans were beaten by 37 to 15. We played pretty well but not enough to over-run Pathana defence.

2. Dharmaraja Vs Kingswood
KCK won by 19 to 3
The second match for Rajans and it was against the arch-rivals. Match was played on 9th April 2011 at Bogambara. The poor ball handling of Rajans gave Kingswoodians an easy opportunity to beat Rajans. At the dying stage of the game both teams played with 14 players each.

3. Dharmaraja Vs St. Peters
St. Peters won by 54 to 5.
The third match for the Rajans in this season. Previously it was scheduled to be played on 30th of April but the date was changed to 29th April. It was a very disappointing performance by the Rajans Rugby team. Peterites played with 14 players as one was sent out. But we were not upto them.

4. Dharmaraja Vs St.Anthonys
St Anthonys won by 29 to 3
The fourth match of the Rajans bought extremely disappointing results. Both teams failed to put up a good show as ball handling, place kicking and basics of Rugby were horrible. The second half was dominated by SACK and Rajans failed to score during the second leg.
We have come to a crucial stage in 2011 Rugby season and still struggling to register a win. It's time to analyse our tactics and have to do something to rectify the mistakes we've done or we are going to end up in division B at the end of the season.

5. Dharmaraja Vs St.Thomas
St.Thomas won by 35-24
After a series of defeats, Thomians were able to register a win by beating Rajans in this match. It was a heart breaker for the us as our struggle to stay in Div A was made almost impossible by the result of this crucial match. We were favorites to win this match as Thora had a disappointing season.
At the beginning of the 2011 Rugby season we had a lot of hopes on our side. We had everything in our favor ... a veteran coach, the venues ( almost all the matches to be held in Kandy) and many teams struggling to keep up their winning habit ( KCK, STC etc ..) but we were unable to capitalise the BEST opportunity we had in a very long time and we well never going to have such a load of opportunities in our favor. Now we are facing a mammoth task to stay in Div A and it seems we need a mirracle to achive it. Let's see what will happen in the future matches ..

6. Dharmaraja Vs Royal
Royal won by 50 to 05. This was tragedy. Though the RC was favorites never expected to lose it by a huge margin.

7. Dharmaraja Vs Thurstan
We registered our first win of this season by defeating Thurstan College in Sugathadasa Stadium on 27th of May. It is a great relief for everyone that supports Rajans Rugby. Now it's time to continue our winning habit. Good luck RAJANS

8. Dharmaraja Vs Science College
Rajans won by 22 to 19
Rajans did well to defeat Science college which made many upsets during this season beating many tough teams like Trinity and Kingswood. We have got to the winning groove and it's great to see boys are fighting again with a lot of spirit. This battle was fought for almost 100 minutes and it proved that we are very much physically fit.

9. Dharmaraja Vs St Joseph's College
St Joseph won by 19 to 17.
Rajans lost this crucial game.
